A First Look at Apple Intelligence and its (Slightly) Smarter Siri

Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 introduces several improvements to Siri, including a glow effect, enhanced language understanding, new writing tools, priority email detection, improved photo search, and text-based Siri interaction. While Siri's core functionality remains similar, future updates will bring screen awareness and app integration for more advanced AI features.

However, some important features like app control, personalized context, and ChatGPT integration are still missing, with Apple planning to release them by 2023 and in-app control by 2025. The initial beta shows promising performance in writing tools, although Image Playground and AI emojis are still absent.

Personal context is processed 'on device' without data transfer to Apple. According to the Wall Street Journal, ChatGPT integration is planned for 2023. Apple Intelligence is currently limited to the EU and does not support reading screen content.
