Boeing Appoints Ortberg as CEO to Lead Recovery from Crises
Boeing has announced the appointment of Robert 'Kelly' Ortberg, an experienced aerospace executive, as its new CEO. Ortberg will take over from Dave Calhoun and will be responsible for resolving safety and quality control issues and turning around the company's financial performance.
The company reported a quarterly loss of $1.44 billion, higher than expected, due to decreased aircraft deliveries and declining profits from defense contracts. Boeing has been under pressure following safety concerns with its planes, including incidents such as a panel separation on a 737 MAX 9 in January.
In response, the FAA limited production of the 737 MAX and Boeing implemented measures to improve safety and quality. Ortberg, who previously led Rockwell Collins and Collins Aerospace, brings over 35 years of industry experience to the role.
His appointment comes as Boeing aims to recover from the 737 Max crises and regain stability in the aviation market.
