Saxony State Election: CDU Wins, AfD in Second; Election Fraud Investigated
The CDU has emerged as the winner of the state election in Saxony, securing 41 seats, while the AfD came in second with 40 seats. However, forming a government may prove difficult as no party is willing to cooperate with the AfD.
The BSW secured 11.8% of the vote, the SPD received 7.3%, the Greens received 5.1%, and the Left fell below the 5% threshold. Initial reports of seat distribution were incorrect due to a software error, but the correct figures have since been provided.
The voter turnout of 74.4% was the highest ever recorded. Furthermore, the police are currently investigating election fraud in local elections, with 111 suspicious ballots being invalidated in Dresden.
The General Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Criminal Police Office are conducting the investigations.
