Lebanon has accused Israel of terrorism following a series of explosions involving communication devices owned by Hezbollah. Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib addressed the UN Security Council, describing the blasts as an unprecedented method of warfare.
The explosions, which took place over two days, resulted in 37 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries. Bou Habib condemned Israel as a rogue state, stressing that the attacks spared neither combatants nor civilians, including children.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah blamed Israel and threatened retaliation, while Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon refrained from commenting directly on the explosions but emphasized Israel's commitment to targeting terrorists within Hezbollah. He clarified that Israel seeks a diplomatic resolution and wants to avoid further escalation, despite ongoing conflicts since the Gaza war began.
UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk labeled the explosions as violations of international humanitarian law, condemning the use of booby traps disguised as harmless objects. He called the attacks war crimes aimed at spreading fear among civilians.
The conflict has intensified, with hundreds of deaths, mostly Hezbollah fighters, and dozens of casualties in Israel, including soldiers and civilians. Tens of thousands have been displaced on both sides of the border.
The situation remains volatile, with calls for international intervention to prevent further escalation and humanitarian crises.
