The comet Tsuchinshan Atlas, originating from the distant Oort Cloud, will soon be visible to the naked eye. Discovered in early 2023 by telescope facilities in China and South Africa, this celestial wanderer will be observable in Germany from early October.

Between October 5th and 11th, it will pass through the field of view of the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). The optimal viewing window will be from October 12th to 14th, when it will shine brightly in the night sky.

With a brightness comparable to the comet Neowise (C/2020 F3), Tsuchinshan Atlas is initially best seen by experienced amateur astronomers. As it journeys closer to the Earth, enthusiasts across regions including Germany, Mexico, and Colombia eagerly await this rare spectacle, with the comet appearing near constellations like Leo, Hydra, and Virgo.

Ensure you find a spot free of light pollution for the best viewing experience.
