SPD Pushes for Solingen Attack Investigation
The SPD is pushing urgently to establish an investigative committee on the Solingen attack. The focus is on the failed deportation of a Syrian suspect, who had applied for asylum in Bielefeld.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office is investigating charges of murder and IS membership. According to the NRW Refugee Minister, multiple authority failures allowed the suspect to remain in Germany.
The investigation period is set to begin on October 27, 2021. The committee formation has led to disputes among political factions regarding the timeline, with the SPD wanting to expedite the process. Additionally, police have conducted multiple searches in Solingen, looking for evidence related to the attack that left three dead and eight injured.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has launched a task force to counteract Islamist radicalization, particularly focusing on online platforms. This task force aims to develop measures over the next two years to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies.
