A remarkable discovery has unveiled Qunkasaura pintiquiniestra, a new sauropod species from the Iberian Peninsula. This impressive creature, measuring 15 meters in length and weighing around 10 tons, roamed the earth approximately 73 million years ago.

Fossils found in Cuenca, a region that was then an island, indicate that this dinosaur likely migrated from Asia rather than evolving in isolation. The species shares connections with relatives in Asia and North America.

The name pays tribute to the artist Antonio Saura and a character from Miguel Cervantes. A portion of its skeleton is proudly displayed at the Museo de Paleontología de Castilla-La Mancha, enriching our understanding of prehistoric life in Europe.
