Aldi Prices Drop Due to Record Potato Harvest
Aldi has announced a price reduction for French fries and other potato products, attributing this move to an exceptional potato harvest this year. Starting Monday, the price for one kilogram of oven fries will decrease from €1.89 to €1.79, marking a five percent drop. Alongside fries, the prices for croquettes and potato pockets will also see reductions.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture has reported preliminary findings indicating a record potato harvest of approximately 12.7 million tons, which is nine percent higher than last year and 17 percent above the multi-year average. This surge is largely due to the largest planting area for potatoes since 2004, combined with yields that also exceed the historical average.
This abundant supply has already resulted in lowered prices for producers, reflecting the overall trend in the potato market. Consumers can expect the benefits of this record yield not only in lower prices but also in the availability of a wide range of potato products. Aldi's proactive pricing strategy aligns with the market dynamics, ensuring that shoppers enjoy cost-effective options during this fruitful season.
