Mozambique's Elections: A Test of Stability and Change

Mozambique's latest presidential and parliamentary elections have unfolded against a backdrop of political continuity and widespread socio-economic challenges. The dominant Frelimo Party, which has governed since the country gained independence from Portugal in 1975, is widely expected to retain power. Daniel Chapo, the party's candidate, is predicted to succeed outgoing President Filipe Nyusi, despite his relative political inexperience.

The elections are marked by concerns over electoral integrity. Allegations of voter manipulation and fraud have surfaced, with accusations that teachers are being pressured to support Frelimo and thousands of fictitious voters are being registered.
