As the U.S. presidential election approaches, Kamala Harris, the 59-year-old Democratic candidate, is set to reintroduce the topics of age and health into the campaign narrative. Aiming to highlight her physical and mental fitness for the presidency, Harris plans to release a detailed medical report. This move is strategically designed to spark a conversation about the suitability of her 78-year-old Republican opponent, Donald Trump, for office.

Previously, discussions around President Joe Biden's age and health were prominent, especially before he announced he would not seek re-election. However, since it became clear that Harris would face Trump in November, these issues have faded from the spotlight. The New York Times has been critical of Trump's lack of transparency regarding his health, in contrast to Biden, who has been more open. The publication notes that Trump's speeches have become increasingly lengthy, confusing, and vulgar.

Recent Gallup polls indicate a shift in public perception, with 41% of voters considering Trump too old for another term, compared to only 37% in June. Harris hopes to leverage her relative youth and vitality to her advantage in the campaign. Despite her efforts, Trump's campaign gains in critical swing states remain a challenge, as Harris leads in only three out of seven key battlegrounds.
