Challenges in Electric Vehicle Adoption
A recent analysis by HUK-Coburg reveals that merely 3.9% of private car owners are investing in electric vehicles (EVs). The total share of EVs in the vehicle stock has barely increased, reaching only 2.9%.
The German government's ambitious goal of 15 million electric cars by 2030 is likely unattainable, with projections indicating a shortfall of around 6 million vehicles. Regional disparities exist, notably with Bavaria leading at 3.4% while Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt lag at 1.5%.
Additionally, the removal of purchase incentives and impending EU tariffs may further dampen consumer interest. Alarmingly, over a third of current EV drivers have reverted to traditional combustion engines, suggesting potential acceptance issues within the market.
