Lebanon's Bold Stance Against Iran's Influence

In a rare move, Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, has voiced a strong critique of Iran's interference in Lebanon's affairs. This comes amid the ongoing conflict involving Hezbollah, a group supported by Iran, which continues to launch rocket attacks on Israel. The escalation in violence has seen Israel target Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, while Iran denies any intention of meddling and claims to seek a ceasefire.

Mikati’s criticism of Iran highlights Lebanon's delicate position in the broader Middle East conflict. He has directed Lebanon's Foreign Minister to summon the Iranian envoy for clarification on Iran's intentions concerning UN Resolution 1701, which calls for non-Lebanese forces to stay out of southern Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the clashes have intensified, with Hezbollah deploying new, advanced weaponry against Israeli forces. As the violence persists, Lebanon is collaborating with international partners, including France, to press for a ceasefire, while also preparing its army to potentially increase its presence in southern Lebanon, signaling a significant shift in Lebanon's diplomatic approach.
