Thuringia's Emerging Coalition Dynamics

In Thuringia, political parties CDU, BSW, and SPD are on the brink of coalition negotiations, aiming to replace the current red-red-green government. Agreement on the preamble, particularly regarding BSW's peace policy demands, remains unresolved.

The SPD plans a member survey to finalize the coalition agreement, while all parties have accepted the exploratory talks' outcomes. The BSW firmly opposes the stationing of US medium-range missiles, a stance aligned with the Two-plus-Four Treaty.

Katja Wolf, BSW chairwoman, assures that there is no friction with federal chairwoman Sahra Wagenknecht, despite her focus on election strategies. Concurrently, BSW has established a new state association in Baden-Württemberg, led by Jessica Tatti and Manfred Hentz.

This expansion reflects BSW's growing influence, having become the third strongest force in recent state elections. With the AfD as the largest faction in the state parliament, forming a government without opposition votes is a challenging endeavor.
