Iranian Spy Network Uncovered in Israel

Israeli authorities have dismantled a sophisticated Iranian spy network operating within the country. This group, consisting of seven individuals, including Jewish immigrants from Azerbaijan, was involved in gathering intelligence on crucial military and energy infrastructure. Among the targets were air force and navy bases, the Iron Dome missile defense system, and a power plant in Chadera.

The spies, including two minors and a soldier who deserted the military, allegedly conducted more than 600 reconnaissance missions over two years. They reportedly received hundreds of thousands of dollars, often in cryptocurrency, for their espionage efforts. The operation was meticulously planned and aimed to provide Iran with detailed insights into strategic Israeli sites.

The investigation, led by Israel's Shin Bet internal security agency, revealed that the network had plans to possibly assassinate Israeli officials. The arrests come at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, following recent missile and drone attacks allegedly orchestrated by Iran.

The accused are expected to face charges related to national security offenses. Israeli prosecutors are preparing to present an indictment, with a request to extend the detention of the suspects until the completion of legal proceedings. This case underscores the ongoing challenges Israel faces in countering espionage and the persistent threat from Iranian intelligence operations.
