The BSW party's decision to enter into coalition talks with the CDU and SPD in Thuringia has sparked significant internal criticism. Leaders Jessica Tatti and Ralph Suikat have openly condemned their Thuringian colleagues, suggesting such actions might render the BSW redundant. They stressed that the party should not become mere facilitators for CDU's goals or capitulate to national CDU leader Friedrich Merz.
The core of the criticism centers around the coalition's preliminary agreement, which includes a preamble emphasizing peace in Europe. However, Tatti and Suikat find this inadequate, specifically due to the lack of a strong stance against US missile deployments in Germany. They argue that without addressing these central demands, the BSW risks deviating from its foundational principles.
BSW Thuringian leader Katja Wolf, however, views the coalition talks as a step towards a stable and socially just government. The negotiations will revolve around key topics such as economy and migration, with seven working groups planned to facilitate discussions.
National figure Sahra Wagenknecht has also expressed dissatisfaction with the coalition's direction, criticizing the lack of alignment with BSW's peace policies. This internal conflict underscores a broader tension within the party regarding its future direction and core values.
