EU Pledges Continued Support for Ukraine Amid Concerns Over US Policy Shift
EU Foreign Representative Josep Borrell visited Kyiv to reassure Ukraine of continued European support following Donald Trump's election victory. Concerns arose in Kyiv over potential shifts in U.S. policy, as Trump had criticized U.S. aid to Ukraine and suggested ending the conflict swiftly.
Borrell emphasized the EU's commitment, stating, "The message is clear: Europeans will continue to support Ukraine." He noted that President Joe Biden remains in office for two more months, advocating for a united Europe. Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, the EU has spent approximately 125 billion dollars on Ukraine, with the U.S. contributing 90 billion dollars.
Borrell's visit, his fifth since the conflict began, marks his final trip as EU Foreign Representative. Estonia's Kaja Kallas is set to succeed him, ensuring Ukraine's support remains a priority for the EU.
