In France, similar weather patterns led to power outages and traffic disruptions, with up to 30 centimeters of snow expected in some areas. A shift in weather is anticipated by Sunday, with a thaw and spring-like temperatures forecasted. However, black ice remains a concern, particularly on Sunday morning, due to the potential for freezing conditions overnight.
The Balkan region also experienced severe weather, with snowstorms leading to traffic chaos and electricity outages in countries like Bosnia, Croatia, and Serbia. Over 10,000 Serbian households were left without power, and flights were canceled in Bosnia. Croatian roads were closed to heavy vehicles due to hazardous conditions.
In the northeastern part of Germany, including cities like Rostock, a cold snap brought the first wave of winter conditions, resulting in accidents due to icy roads. Authorities have advised the use of winter tires and urged caution due to freezing moisture on roads. Winter services remain on high alert, working around the clock to clear and maintain safe travel paths.
While the cold weather is expected to relent with a surge of warm air bringing temperatures up to 17 degrees Celsius, experts predict an oscillation back to colder conditions by early December. This suggests a potentially mild winter, possibly ranking among the warmest in recent years.
