The test project 'RABus' in Friedrichshafen has been extended until 2025, with a state funding boost of 1.8 million euros, bringing the total investment to 14 million euros. The autonomous minibuses, equipped with safety drivers, have already serviced 1,450 passengers during trial runs, operating at speeds up to 60 km/h.
Meanwhile, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) anticipates a widespread rollout of driverless buses by 2027. Hamburg is poised to lead this transformation, potentially deploying up to 10,000 autonomous shuttles by 2030.
