Brandenburg Coalition Talks Nearing Conclusion
In Brandenburg, coalition negotiations between the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the new political group BSW are nearing completion. The discussions have tackled contentious issues such as economic sanctions, constitutional loyalty checks, and educational policies, including a ban on smartphones in primary schools.
BSW is pushing for three ministerial posts, with ambitions for the Interior or Finance ministries. The previous state government dissolved following the dismissal of the Health Minister.
Talks are led by SPD Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke and BSW chairman Robert Crumbach. The coalition agreement could be finalized by the end of the week, potentially establishing the new government before Christmas.
Both parties have reached consensus on several key areas, including police staffing, migration measures, and economic assistance. However, disagreements remain over the Bundeswehr site at Holzdorf.
The SPD's Katrin Lange shows interest in the Interior Ministry, while SPD and BSW members will soon decide on the coalition contract. The new government faces a slim majority, but optimism remains high for a resolution soon.
