Addressing Rural Mobility Challenges for Apprentices

Jörg Dittrich, President of the Central Association of German Crafts, highlights the unique challenges faced by rural apprentices. He argues that subsidies for driving licenses would be more beneficial than the national 'Deutschlandticket' public transport pass, as public transport is often inadequate in rural areas.

Critics, however, point out that this solution is insufficient. Without a car, a driving license holds limited value, and the average apprentice salary of 1066 euros gross per month makes car ownership financially challenging.

They advocate for improved public transport connections, better working conditions, and rural car-sharing programs. The issue is pressing, given that a third of apprenticeships remained unfilled in 2023, a problem that can't solely be attributed to transportation hurdles.

Comprehensive strategies are necessary to address the broader systemic issues affecting rural mobility and employment.
