Escalating Violence in Northern Syria

Recent conflicts in Syria's Aleppo and Idlib provinces have resulted in the deadliest fighting in years, with over 200 fatalities reported. The jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), affiliated with Al-Qaeda, has made significant territorial gains, seizing multiple villages and cutting off key supply routes.

This resurgence of violence has drawn in Russian airstrikes and escalated clashes with the Syrian army. Notably, an Iranian Revolutionary Guard general was killed amid the turmoil.

Since the civil war began in 2011, Syria has witnessed catastrophic loss of life and displacement, and the current hostilities suggest a dangerous intensification of the ongoing conflict.
