The focus now extends to the HSH Nordbank's involvement, which repaid €127 million in improperly claimed taxes. The inquiry seeks to determine if similar leniency, as shown to the Warburg Bank, was applied.

Scholz's past encounters with Warburg's Christian Olearius have raised suspicions of political interference, although no concrete evidence has been found. Scholz maintains no memory of key conversations.

The investigation's expansion to include the HSH Nordbank could pose new challenges for Scholz, as questions regarding his awareness and potential political influence during his tenure as Hamburg's First Mayor are scrutinized.
