Wisdom's Remarkable Legacy

Wisdom, a 74-year-old Laysan albatross, continues to inspire with her recent egg-laying on Midway Atoll. As the oldest known wild bird, she has laid approximately 60 eggs during her lifetime, successfully raising around 30 chicks.

This remarkable journey began when she was first banded in 1956. Although her long-time partner, Akeakamai, is missing, Wisdom has formed a bond with a new male. Laysan albatrosses are dedicated parents, incubating their eggs for two months and nurturing their young for up to six months.

Wildlife officials express hope for the successful hatching of her latest egg, showcasing the resilience and beauty of nature through Wisdom's enduring legacy.
