BMW is steadfast in its commitment to meet the climate targets set for 2025. CEO Oliver Zipse is confident that the company will reduce its vehicles' CO2 emissions by 19% as required by new regulations. This optimism is rooted in BMW's strategic focus on enhancing powertrain efficiency and electromobility, which remains the primary growth driver for the automaker in the foreseeable future.

The impending regulations demand that average emissions for new cars decrease to 93.6 grams per kilometer. Zipse is unfazed by the ongoing debates in Germany over these targets, which have been known since 2019. While some car manufacturers have called for a suspension of the CO2 limits, BMW has aligned its model policies and technologies to meet these standards.

The company has improved the efficiency of its engines, brakes, and aerodynamics, positioning itself to avoid the penalties associated with exceeding emission limits. Zipse has also highlighted the need for better synchronization of EU regulations concerning vehicle CO2 emissions and the renewable energy directive.

BMW is also planning to scale up its electric vehicle sales in Germany in 2024 and intends to use synthetic fuels for all diesel models produced in the country starting in 2025. This transition underscores BMW's resolve to lead in the global shift towards sustainable automotive solutions by integrating cleaner technologies and fuels.
