An elderly couple from Neubrandenburg and a 67-year-old from Rostock fell victim to a telephone fraud scheme, losing substantial amounts of money through deceptive investment offers. Fraudsters, posing as credible financial advisors, lured victims with seemingly lucrative opportunities in airline shares and cryptocurrencies, supported by convincingly designed fake websites. The victims only realized the deception when these websites vanished and the fraudsters became unreachable.
In a separate case, a former funeral director from Rostock, notorious as a 'mourning swindler,' exploited the emotional turmoil of grieving women. He defrauded three victims out of 200,000 euros by presenting himself as a financially stable businessman, taking advantage of their vulnerable situations. This led to a conviction for professional fraud, resulting in a sentence of five and a half years in prison. The court also mandated the confiscation of his ill-gotten assets.
