Urgent Need to Address Vaccination Gaps in Germany

Germany faces significant challenges with declining vaccination rates for diseases like polio, diphtheria, and measles. The alarming data reveals that only 21% of children are fully vaccinated against polio by their first birthday.

Aiming for a 95% vaccination rate, the Ständige Impfkommission (Stiko) stresses the importance of timely immunizations to prevent outbreaks. The hesitancy to vaccinate, partly fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic, has led to gaps in immunization, especially among certain demographics.

These gaps threaten to reintroduce diseases that once seemed nearly eradicated. The resurgence of measles, with cases rising to 636 this year, underscores the urgency.
