The Berlin Aquarium Disaster: A Reflection on Loss and Renewal

On December 16, 2022, Berlin experienced a catastrophic event when its giant aquarium burst, unleashing approximately a million liters of water. This disaster not only flooded the neighboring hotel and shops but also led to the tragic loss of thousands of fish.

In the aftermath, the site of the aquarium underwent a transformation. A vertical garden, featuring around 2,000 plants across 22 species, was planted in place of the shattered aquarium.
