Berlin's Stance on Public Safety: New Weapon and Knife Prohibition Zones

In a decisive move to enhance public safety, the Berlin Senate has established weapon and knife prohibition zones in key areas of Kreuzberg and Wedding. This initiative, set to commence in February 2025, covers public transport routes, including buses, subways, and stations at Görlitzer Park, Kottbusser Tor, and Leopoldplatz. Violations of these zones will be treated as administrative offenses, with fines reaching up to 10,000 euros, and confiscation of prohibited items. Exceptions are made for restaurateurs, emergency services, and the police.

Additionally, the New Year's Eve celebrations at Brandenburg Gate will also be designated as a prohibited zone. This measure reflects a broader trend of increased security and preventive actions across Germany, as cities like Munich have introduced bans in public parks. These efforts aim to mitigate risks associated with large gatherings, especially during festive seasons.
