Mercedes Advances in Automated Driving

Mercedes-Benz has achieved a significant milestone with the approval from the Federal Motor Transport Authority for highly automated driving up to 95 km/h. This approval pertains to the S-Class and EQS models equipped with the advanced Drive Pilot system. Available from spring 2025, this technology allows drivers to transfer driving tasks to the system under specific conditions, primarily on the right-hand lane of motorways.

The Drive Pilot system represents a leap from the previous cap of 60 km/h, now enabling "hands-off, eyes-off" driving. However, drivers must remain vigilant and ready to assume control if necessary. This Level 3 autonomous driving capability marks a substantial advancement in the automotive industry, highlighting Mercedes-Benz's commitment to innovation.

While the Drive Pilot system will initially support speeds up to 95 km/h, Mercedes-Benz plans to extend this capability to 130 km/h by 2030. The system is accessible through an over-the-air update or a workshop visit, costing approximately 5,950 euros. The approval positions Mercedes-Benz as a leader in the autonomous driving sector, setting a benchmark for future developments in automotive technology.
