Suspected Poisoning of Kremlin Critic's Family Member Investigated in Berlin

A German-Russian woman, potentially linked with prominent Russian opposition figure Wladimir Kara-Mursa, was admitted to Berlin's Charité hospital amid suspicions of poisoning. The woman, who reportedly belongs to a political opposition movement, experienced nausea and raised concerns about being poisoned. Consequently, Berlin police are investigating a possible attempted homicide, conducting thorough blood and clothing analyses.

Kara-Mursa, known for surviving two previous poisoning attempts, confirmed his mother is hospitalised but stated that initial suspicions of poisoning or heart attack were unfounded. Despite the first negative blood test results, further comprehensive analyses are underway to rule out the presence of toxic substances, such as the nerve agent Novichok, which has been used in past poisonings of Russian dissidents, including Alexei Navalny.

Amid these events, Kara-Mursa's recent history adds a layer of complexity to the case. Sentenced to 25 years for treason in April 2023 in Russia, he was released in August during a prisoner exchange between Russia and the West. The case has drawn parallels to previous high-profile poisonings linked to Russian political opposition, heightening concerns over safety and security.
