Rising Demand for Care in Germany

The number of individuals requiring care in Germany has surged to 5.7 million, marking an increase of 700,000 since 2021. A remarkable 86% of these individuals are cared for at home, with a significant portion only receiving a care allowance.

Among them, 3.1 million depend solely on financial support, while 1.1 million benefit from outpatient assistance. The demographic shift reveals that 61% of those in need are women, and 78% are over the age of 65. Alarmingly, 680,000 individuals classified as having care level 1 do not access any formal services.

Additionally, the trend is evident in Bavaria, where more than 631,000 people require care, with a notable increase in home-based support. This growing demand highlights the urgent need for enhanced resources and services to support the aging population and those with care needs across the country.
