Rwanda Concludes Marburg Virus Outbreak

Rwanda has officially declared the Marburg virus outbreak over, following a total of 66 reported cases and 15 fatalities. The virus, transmitted from fruit bats to miners, primarily affected healthcare workers in the capital, Kigali.

Notably, the country has not recorded any new cases in the past 42 days, surpassing the virus's incubation period. This significant milestone marks a successful containment of the disease.

Although there was a suspected case in Hamburg, Germany, it has since been ruled out. The Marburg virus is known to cause severe symptoms, including high fever and gastrointestinal distress.

With a population of approximately 14 million, Rwanda's swift response has been commendable, and the nation can now focus on recovery and health security.
