Kazan, a central Russian city far from the Ukrainian border, recently faced a significant drone attack, as reported by Russian authorities. The President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, described the incident as a massive assault targeting civilian areas early in the morning. While industrial sites had previously been the main targets, this attack marked a shift to residential zones, causing fires in several neighborhoods.

Eight drones were detected during the attack, but fortunately, no casualties were reported. The local administration evacuated residents from affected areas, although the exact number remains undisclosed. Visuals circulating online show drones striking tall buildings and igniting blazes, though the authenticity of these images is unverified by independent sources.

In response, the Russian Defense Ministry accused Kyiv of targeting civilian infrastructure. They claimed to have neutralized or destroyed six drones but did not specify the total number launched. Kazan has been a frequent target of Ukrainian drone strikes, often aimed at industrial facilities with military links. Kyiv, however, has not commented on the latest incident.

The attack prompted a temporary suspension of flights at Kazan's airport, and all major public events over the weekend were canceled due to safety concerns. Meanwhile, Russian forces reportedly captured the village of Kostiantynopolske near the industrial city of Kurakhove in Eastern Ukraine, further escalating tensions.
