Storms and Weather Warnings Mark New Year's Start

As the New Year unfolds, much of Germany and parts of the UK are grappling with severe weather conditions. Northern Germany is experiencing storm gusts up to wind force 9, leading to dangerous conditions for traditional New Year's fireworks and causing disruptions in ferry services to several islands. The German Weather Service has issued warnings of strong winds, particularly in regions like Cologne and Berlin, where gusts could reach up to 75 km/h.

In addition to the wind, certain areas are dealing with increased fine dust pollution, which poses health risks, particularly in the Danube region where high fog contributes to the problem. The southern parts of Germany, however, enjoy some sunshine amidst the cloudy and rainy spells.

In the UK, New Year's Day 2025 has been marked by heavy rain and winds, with over 150 flood warnings issued across England, Wales, and Scotland. The Environment Agency is actively managing flood defenses, especially in North-West England. As both Germany and the UK brace for these challenging weather conditions, the hope is for improvements as the new year progresses.
