Ancient Dinosaur Footprints Unearthed in Oxfordshire
A remarkable discovery in Dewars Farm Quarry, Oxfordshire, has unveiled dinosaur footprints that date back 166 million years to the Middle Jurassic period. This extraordinary find features a 'dinosaur highway' comprising tracks from both herbivorous and carnivorous species, notably the colossal Cetiosaurus and the predatory Megalosaurus.
Over 200 footprints were meticulously excavated by a dedicated team of more than 100 scientists and volunteers, with the initial sighting credited to quarry worker Gary Johnson. The excavation employed advanced technology, including drones, to create detailed 3D models of the site.
These footprints not only provide a glimpse into the lives of these ancient creatures but also showcase potential interactions between them. The findings will be prominently displayed in the upcoming exhibition 'Breaking Ground' at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, set to run until September 29, 2025. This site is recognized as one of the world's most significant dinosaur discovery locations.
