Robot Vacuums Evolve with Gripping Arms

At CES 2025, robot vacuums with gripping arms were showcased, marking a significant leap in household cleaning technology. Models like the Roborock Saros Z70 and Dreame prototype can now pick up and move objects like socks and sandals. The Saros Z70 features a camera in its arm for enhanced object recognition, moving items up to 300 grams, while Dreame's prototype can handle objects up to 500 grams. This innovation allows users to specify objects for removal and their new location, offering greater control.

Dreame's advanced model can even climb steps and utilize additional tools, showcasing versatility beyond simple floor cleaning. These advancements hint at a future where household cleaning becomes increasingly automated, reducing human intervention. Despite these strides, robots still face challenges in tackling complex tasks like cleaning entire kitchens or lounges autonomously.
