BSW Prepares for Election Challenge with New Program
The Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) is set to convene its second federal party conference in Bonn, where it will finalize its election program for the upcoming Bundestag elections. Scheduled for February 23, the elections pose a significant challenge for the young party, which was founded just a year ago. With approximately 1100 members, the BSW aims to secure at least five percent of the secondary votes to gain entry into the Bundestag.
During the conference, speeches from co-party leader Amira Mohamed Ali and chancellor candidate Sarah Wagenknecht will highlight the day. The party's proposed 39-page manifesto, titled "Unser Land verdient mehr" (Our Country Deserves More), will be a focal point.
In parallel, the BSW's Hamburg branch has recently undergone a repeat election for its state board due to initial procedural uncertainties. Konstantin Eulenburg and Jochen Brack were reaffirmed as state chairpersons, while Metin Kaya assumed the role of deputy chair, and Christian Kruse was appointed treasurer. This re-election underscores the party's meticulous approach to solidifying its organizational structure ahead of the elections.
Simultaneously, the SSW (Südschleswigscher Wählerverband), representing Denmark's and Friesland's minorities, has nominated Stefan Seidler as their leading candidate. Seidler, who made history in 2021 as the first SSW politician in the Bundestag, seeks to secure a second mandate. The SSW's agenda includes advocating for a €15 minimum wage and sustainable energy reforms.
Together, these developments highlight a dynamic electoral landscape, with both BSW and SSW striving for a stronger presence in the German political arena.
