BSW Gears Up for Tough Election Battle

The Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) is rallying its members for an assertive election campaign, emphasizing a strong stance against political rivals. At the recent party congress in Bonn, Sahra Wagenknecht, the chancellor candidate, underscored the BSW's identity as the sole consistent peace party. With fierce rhetoric, she urged the party to focus on its main themes: peace and deindustrialization.

Wagenknecht criticized current sanctions against Russia, advocating for the continuation of Russian gas imports to secure affordable energy for Germany. She argued that such sanctions serve as economic boosters for the U.S. while harming European businesses. Her call for diplomacy over militarization highlights the BSW's dedication to avoiding war in the nuclear age.

Amid protests and internal disputes, including the expulsion of members who formed a separate regional association, the party remains determined. Co-leader Amira Mohamed Ali echoed Wagenknecht’s criticism of other parties, particularly targeting the AfD, accusing them of compromising German interests.

Despite internal challenges and polling below the five-percent threshold, the BSW has made its mark in the European Parliament and several regional governments. The party's campaign platform includes increasing the minimum wage and pension reforms.
