Habeck Defends Nuclear Phase-Out Amid Criticism

Robert Habeck, Germany's Federal Minister of Economics and Green Chancellor candidate, recently appeared before the Bundestag's nuclear energy investigation committee. He was there to defend his actions regarding the nuclear phase-out in 2022. Habeck emphasized that his main focus was ensuring energy supply security. Despite considering an extension of nuclear power plant operations, he noted that these plants contributed minimally to addressing the gas shortage.

Habeck criticized previous governments for their dependency on Russian gas, a stance that has drawn sharp criticism from committee chairman Stefan Heck of the CDU. Heck accused Habeck of "deception," an allegation that Habeck staunchly denies. The SPD and Greens in the committee support Habeck, finding no evidence to substantiate the accusations.
