Declining Sales Amid Economic Uncertainty

In 2024, Champagne sales experienced a notable decline of 9.2%, totaling 271.4 million bottles. The domestic market in France saw a reduction of 7.2%, while exports fell by 10.8%.

Despite comprising 56.4% of total sales, the export sector struggled significantly. Maxime Toubart, Vice-President of Comité Champagne, attributed this downturn to economic uncertainty, inflation, and global political tensions.

The changing consumer landscape, with a growing preference for more affordable alternatives, further exacerbates the issue. The Champagne region, covering 34,000 hectares, remains strictly regulated regarding grape processing and harvesting methods.

As demand wanes, industry stakeholders are urged to innovate and explore new markets to revive interest in this luxurious beverage.
