Explosion Rocks Spanish Ammunition Factory, Injures Six

An explosion at the Rheinmetall Expal Munitions factory in Javalí Viejo, Spain, has resulted in six injuries, with one person in serious condition. The incident occurred at a plant operated by the German defense giant Rheinmetall, a renowned manufacturer of artillery ammunition, mortar rounds, and rocket propulsion systems. The injured individuals range in age from 30 to 52 years, with injuries including skull trauma, burns, and smoke inhalation.

Five of the injured were transported to hospitals in Murcia, while one was treated at the scene. The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and investigations are underway. This isn't the first incident at the site; a similar event last year resulted in injuries to two employees.

The factory is part of a global network, with Rheinmetall Expal Munitions operating seven sites across Spain and the USA. The company supplies military products to over 60 countries, including the Ukraine, which is currently a significant client.

The explosion also triggered a forest fire, burning approximately 3,000 square meters of land before being extinguished by firefighting teams. Despite the recurring issues, Rheinmetall continues its operations, expanding its reach in the defense sector. The incident highlights the inherent risks associated with ammunition manufacturing and the need for stringent safety measures.
