Saxony-Anhalt Considers Packaging Tax to Combat Waste
Municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt, including Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Weißenfels, are contemplating a packaging tax aimed at curbing disposable waste and equitably distributing disposal expenses. In Wittenberg, a proposal from the Left Party is under consideration, with city officials viewing it as an opportunity to lessen waste and assist with cleaning costs.
Prior to any decision, Wittenberg plans to attend an informative session hosted by the German Association of Cities. Tübingen has already implemented this tax, charging an additional 50 cents for single-use coffee cups.
In total, about 120 municipalities show interest in adopting a similar measure, reflecting a growing trend towards reducing single-use product consumption.
