A Spectacle of Dolphins in Carmel Bay

Recently, over 1,500 Risso's dolphins were spotted off California's Carmel Bay, creating a remarkable scene. These rare bottlenose dolphins, reaching lengths of up to four meters and weighing around half a ton, were captured from a drone by the Monterey Bay Whale Watch team.

Captain Evan Brodsky expressed his excitement at witnessing such an extraordinary event, while marine biologist Colleen Talty described it as a 'big party' of marine life. This rare gathering is particularly notable, as Risso's dolphins are typically seen in much smaller pods of 10 to 30. The breathtaking footage highlights the beauty and diversity of marine ecosystems.
