Revitalization of the Seine River

The discovery of three endangered mussel species in the Seine River highlights a significant improvement in water quality. Following an investment of 1.4 billion euros, the river now supports over 30 fish species, a remarkable increase from just three.

These mussels act as vital bioindicators, reflecting the ecological health of their environment. However, concerns regarding water safety for recreational activities remain, as certain bacteria levels must be monitored.

Plans are underway to open outdoor swimming pools in the Seine, although some swimming competitions during the Olympic Games faced postponement due to fluctuating water conditions.
