Spring Return of Storks in Rheinland-Palatinate
In Rheinland-Palatinate, approximately one-third of the storks have returned from their winter habitats in Senegal, France, and Spain. The return is being monitored through the Animal Tracker app, with Sissi, a transmitter-equipped stork, starting her journey back in January.
Storks tend to return to the same nests, making nest removal detrimental to their population stability. These birds are prevalent across various regions, including the Palatinate and Westerwald, where a stork pair has been breeding since 2021. Recognized as an indicator species, the health of storks reflects the well-being of other wildlife.
Caretakers are optimistic for a balanced weather pattern of sun and rain to ensure ample food and foster healthy offspring.
