Beaver Dams and Termite Mounds: Animals Shaping the Earth
Animals such as beavers, termites, salmon, freshwater crayfish, ant mound landscapes, burrowing scorpions, hippopotamuses, as well as insects, mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and livestock such as cattle, yaks, goats, sheep and horses actively shape the earth by creating wetlands, building mounds, reshaping riverbeds, influencing bank erosion and sediment transport. Their influence corresponds to hundreds of thousands of floods and is even 450 times greater in livestock than in wild animals.
