Strategic Stockpiles of Protective Gear in Schleswig-Holstein and Beyond

Schleswig-Holstein has strategically stored 5.3 million medical protective masks since May 2020, ensuring preparedness for emergencies. This reserve includes 300,000 FFP2 masks, 800,000 examination gloves, and 400,000 protective gowns, managed through a rolling system to prevent spoilage.

The Federal Ministry of Health and various states have collectively purchased billions of masks for healthcare facilities. Similarly, Hamburg maintains millions of masks, navigating legal complexities in distribution while planning future stockpiling efforts.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern also holds 2.7 million masks, aiming to avoid waste through charitable distributions, particularly for aid to Ukraine. These proactive measures reflect a commitment to health security, ensuring essential protective gear remains available and effective for future crises.
