Wage Increases Across German Sectors

Recent negotiations in Germany have led to significant wage increases across various sectors, benefiting thousands of workers. In the eastern German confectionery sector, approximately 4,000 employees will see a salary rise of 10.1%, with an initial increase of 5% effective from June. Additionally, apprentices will receive an extra €100 starting in June 2025, followed by another €50 in July 2026.

In the hospitality industry of Baden-Württemberg, a collective agreement has been reached, ensuring a 7% pay hike for around 137,000 employees in approximately 27,000 businesses, starting in April 2025. This decision is strategically timed ahead of a projected minimum wage increase scheduled for January 2026. The contract will remain valid until the end of the year, with further discussions anticipated in the autumn.

Moreover, employees in the fast-food sector, including McDonald's and Burger King, will also benefit from increased wages. The Federal Association of System Gastronomy has accepted a mediation decision, resulting in pay raises ranging from 9.8% to 18.73% for around 120,000 workers. This new agreement, which will take effect until the end of 2026, marks a hopeful resolution after extensive negotiations that previously yielded no agreement.
