Controversy Over Trump's Greenland Annexation Plans

President Donald Trump has reiterated his plans to annex Greenland, citing international security as a primary motive. In a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump stated that the annexation would help counter the growing presence of Russian and Chinese ships near the Arctic island. Rutte, while acknowledging the security concerns in the Arctic, expressed reluctance to involve NATO in this matter.

The US President has previously threatened to use force if necessary to bring Greenland under American control. He argues that Greenland's rich resources and strategic location are vital for US interests. Despite supporting the right of Greenland's population to decide their future, Trump remains confident that the US will acquire the territory "one way or another."

However, Trump's plans face significant opposition. Greenland's leadership, including Premier Múte B. Egede, firmly rejects the idea, emphasizing that Greenland is not for sale. Recent polls show that 85% of Greenlanders oppose the annexation. Denmark, which retains control over Greenland's foreign and defense policies, has also dismissed the annexation plans.
