Mercury Leak Incident at University of Kiel

A mercury leak occurred in a laboratory at the University of Kiel's technical faculty, resulting in injuries to two researchers and one firefighter. The incident was triggered by a broken specialized lamp, releasing toxic mercury, a heavy metal known for its harmful effects.

In response, 45 firefighters were deployed to manage the situation. Laboratory staff quickly ventilated the area and evacuated the building to ensure safety.

Experts in chemical protective gear were brought in to assess the danger. The laboratory has been sealed off and will undergo thorough cleaning by a specialized company to prevent further health risks.
